NERF BARS 101

Nerf bar is a tubular steel product that mounts under the cab of a pickup truck. They provide a sturdy step that makes getting in / out easier and also protect the rocker panel from damage while off road. They come in vehicle specific kits that include a bar for each side, custom fit mounting brackets, and all the hardware needed for installation. Nerf bars are available in chrome plated, polished stainless, or black powder coated finishes. Traditionally they are made of 3" round tubing but now are also available in 4" oval tubes with a wider step pad. Just like with the other products available on our site we have used our 30+ years of experience to narrow down our selection to the two brands that we believe to be your best choice. Both are made of quality materials by manufacturers that we have been using for years and know to be a quality product built by a company that will stand behind it .

Trail FX is a private label imported nerf bar that we started selling in 2005. We were skeptical of these lower priced bars at first but quickly realized that the quality of the bars, brackets, and hardware was as good if not better than other brands we sell. They are basically a copy of Westin's E-Series kit and are available in polished 304 stainless steel with a lifetime warranty or black powder coated e-coated mild steel with a 3 year warranty.

|
Chrome is a plating applied to steel that seals and protects the metal underneath from rust. The shine you see on a polished stainless steel product is the metal itself polished out to that shine. Chrome has a near flawless finish with a brighter whiter shine than polished stainless but the plating must be properly cared for to prevent oxidation. For the average buyer polished stainless is a better choice because no maintenance is required to keep the original shine and they include a lifetime warranty. The shine will not be a perfect match for the factory chrome trim but since they are not mounted against a chrome surface most people will never notice the difference.
