Some people spell it tonneau others use tonno, either way the product is a truck bed cover designed to keep the cargo inside a pickup truck's bed out of sight and dry. These truck bed covers are sold in complete kits with the frame, cover, clamps, mounting hardware and everything needed for installation. Tonneau cover kits clamp on without drilling or cutting and some can be installed in as little as 5 minutes with no tools needed. Tonneau covers can be a confusing purchase for many buyers simply because there are so many options to pick from. Just like with the other products available on Got-Chrome.com we have used our 30+ years of experience to narrow down the selection to a few brands that we have years of experience with and know to be a quality product manufactured by a company that will stand behind every cover built.

SNAP DOWN
Snap Down tonneau covers are the best price and will do a good job of keeping your cargo dry but are the least secure and out of the three styles they are the hardest to operate. If you want to cover the bed with little to no plans of ever opening or taking off the cover and security is not an issue this will be a good choice for you.

ROLL UP
Roll up tonneau covers are a better choice for most truck owners because the rear frame rail and crossbars roll up with the cover giving you full access to the bed when opened. They velcro on both sides so you don’t have to tug / pull to get the snaps locked down every time you open it and the tailgate has to be open to open the cover making it much more secure. If you need the bed covered most of the time but will need full access at times this will be a much better choice than the snap down style.

TRI FOLD
Tri Fold tonneau covers are made up of 3 panels with a unique hinge system that allow the cover to be folded up to 1/3rd its full size. Tri fold covers are the easiest to operate and by far the easiest to install. When opened they can be stowed on the truck with 1/3rd of the bed still covered or can be quick released for full bed access. If you need a cover some of the time but will need quick access or plan on completely removing it often a tri fold cover will be your best choice.

HARD FOLDING
Hard folding tonneau covers are the best choice for buyers that need the security of a hard cover but will also need quick access to the bed. We recommend a tri fold aluminum one that ships out completely assembled for a simple 5 minute install. Just like the soft tri fold it is made up of 3 panels with a hinge that allows it to be folded up to 1/3rd its full size. The clamps and parts all stow neatly on the cover so when removed there are no parts to loose or break.

RETRACTABLE
Retractable tonneau covers are basically a garage door for your truck bed. The kit will include a track system that mounts to both bedsides that the cover will slide in and out. Mounted in the front of the bed will be a canister that the cover rolled up inside of. This is the only style of tonneau cover that can be left partially open while driving but it is the hardest to install and of all the styles is the least water proof.

HINGED
Hinged tonneau covers are basically a hood for the truck bed. They are one big piece that covers the entire top of the bed and include a frame system for the cover to pivot on. Hinged truck bed covers will have gas struts on each side to support the cover while opened. These could be made of fiberglass or abs plastic and unlike the other styles can be painted to match. Hinged truck bed covers are a good choice for truck owners that need a secure cover but never plan on hauling anything taller than the inside of the bed (about 20").

FEQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Is it water tight?
Pickup truck beds were never designed to be water tight and obviously the cover only seals the top edge of the bed so NO buying a tonneau cover is not going to keep every drop of water out of a truck bed. All trucks have a tailgate that when closed leaves a gap between it and the bed. On top of that most beds have holes somewhere else like the stake pockets, factory bed cap clips, or where the front bulkhead meets the bedsides. Having said that the covers found on this site will slow the amount of water allowed into your bed to small drops which will never fill the grooves of your bed high enough to soak your cargo. If your goal is to keep every drop of water out simply buying a tonneau cover is not going to do the job but the cover combined with a tailgate seal kit, some properly positioned foam seals, and a little silicone will make it water tight.
Will it work with a bed liner?
Yes tonneau covers work fine with under the rail plastic bed liners, spray on bed liners, and most bed caps but over the rail bed liners that block access to the inside lip of the bed will cause a problem. Some covers will still work with an over the rail bed liner if holes are cut in the liner for the clamps to pass through but others that mount to the inside lip of the bed will not.

What is a utility track?

Utility track is a factory option that is installed on some newer trucks. It is an aluminum frame system mounted on the upper inside of both bed sides and across the front bulkhead. If your truck has this track we will have a kit for it that includes brackets that slide into the track that the cover will attach to.
